  • Situation: An international energy body selected a Korean city as host for its most high-profile event following a competitive bid against major international cities. At the same time, the organization was repositioning itself to be more globally relevant.

  • Challenge: With the provincial host city lacking international visibility, there was concern that failure would undermine both the city itself and the organization’s strategic transformation.

  • Approach: Insight, working alongside an international partner agency to ensure global reach, led a coordinated international media relations campaign in the year before the event. During the event itself, we operated a full-scale Media Center. Our decision to have our own reporters in each of several simultaneous sessions for over the five days write up and write up press releases and distribute them to over 1,000 media outlets worldwide resulted in unprecedented coverage.

  • Outcome: The event attracted 7,500 delegates and more than 500 Korean and international journalists, setting participation records. It was regarded as a major success, and the Media Center operation was recognized as the most effective in its 100-year history.
